How to Give Your Website a FREE SEO Audit

Giving your website an SEO audit will allow you to see if there are any technical problems with your website. It will also help you see how your website is ranking for specific keywords and key phrases. And more importantly, why it is ranking for those terms.

There are a number of tools that allow you to check your website’s status free of charge. Let us take a closer look at five free services that provide a free search engine optimization report of your website.

1. Screaming Frog SEO Spider Tool

Screaming Frog is a desktop application that is available for Windows, Macs, and Linux computers. It allows you to analyze 500 URLs free of charge.

The application provides a large detailed SEO report about your website that illustrates key issues that need to be addressed. The reports will highlight server errors, redirection issues, missing meta descriptions and keywords, missing header tags, anchor text images, and much more.

The amount of information Screaming Frog provides can be a little overwhelming at first. However, if you take the time to examine its reports, you will be able to see SEO related problems that will need to be addressed.

2. WooRank

WooRank is a premium SEO service that offers detailed reports from $49 per month. However, they do provide a limited report of your website.

The report will give you an overall score and provide a list of top priorities of what needs to be addressed. It also highlights information on issues such as keyword consistency, mobile load times, page loading times, sitemaps, headings and more.

If you are looking for a quick overview of what needs to be resolved on your website, I recommend testing WooRank out.

3. Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is a free service from google that was designed to help website owners ensure their website is SEO friendly. It will not highlight many issues that other SEO audit services provide. What it will do is indicate whether there are any problems with crawling your website.

Any issues with meta descriptions or page titles will be displayed in the HTML improvements section. The search queries page will show you the keywords and key phrases that people used to find your website and the total links to your website is displayed. Problems with crawl issues, the Robots.txt file, and your sitemaps, are also highlighted.

It is important to check Google Webmaster Tools regularly if you want to ensure that Google can crawl your content correctly. Be sure to check out Bing Webmaster Tools too.

4. SEMrush

SEMrush is a premium SEO service. Like WooRank, they provide a limited version free of charge. The tagline for SEMrush is “Competitors Research”. Despite being marketed as a way to examine competitors, I believe that one of the best ways of using SEMrush is to analyze your own website.

The report provides a lot of interesting information about your website. This includes organic keywords, changes in rankings, main competitors, backlinks, referring domains, and more. The free report provides the same information as the premium reports that cost $69.95 per month. The main difference being that the free reports limits the number of items that are reported.

I recommend checking SEMrush out if you want a good overview of your website, or a competitors website.

5. Seoptimer

Seoptimer is a free SEO audit service that provides a one page report on a specified web page. It is a quick and effective way of quickly checking you have no key issues on your website.

It will provide details on your header, your content, internal and external links, additional files, social media signals, HTTP headers, domain and server.
